Burnie McQueen, Jr. (BJ) transitioned into the presence of the Lord on Friday, February 6, 2026, at home surrounded by the love
and comfort of his family.

Burnie was born on June 26, 1934, to Burnie McQueen, Sr. and Isabelle Steele McQueen, both of whom preceded him in death.

His memory will be cherished by his family - life partner , Patricia Kelly of Jacksonville, NC, son , Burnie Antonio McQueen, III, of
Sarasota, FL; brother , Robert McQueen (Gwendolyn Nelson) of Raleigh, NC; sister , Pecolia McQueen Little (Army Dee Little (d) of
Absecon, NJ; two cousins , Lillie Steele of Candor, NC, and Creal McQueen (Anne) of Raleigh, NC; four nieces : Audrey McQueen
of Raleigh, NC, Natalie McQueen of Cary, NC, Theresa Little and Nicole Little of Absecon, NJ; one nephew , Darryl Little (Fareda)
of Sparta, NJ; four great nieces , Rhaegan Jackson and Maya Jackson of Raleigh, NC, LaRae Little and Kayla Register of
Absecon, NJ; two great nephews , Merric Jackson (Madeline) of Greensboro, NC, and Corey Register of Absecon, NJ; and two
great-great nephews , Emerson Jackson of Greensboro, NC, and Elijah Little of Absecon, NJ.

Burnie valued his family with utmost pride and love; his daily mantra was, "I'm here for you; you are here for me."

Burnie's Band of Brothers and alums of North Carolina A&T State University included the Honorable Ed Towns, Thomas "Mr.
Wonderful" Mosley (d), Colonel Joe "Leg Diamond" Holman, Don Forney (d) , Leon Warren (d) , James Toome (d) , Jake DuBose
(d) , Frank Irving, James "Black White" White, William Hawkins (d) , and his roommate of four years, Sterling "Cheese" Smith (d) .
Their bond, more than 65 years strong, was built on abiding loyalty, genuine friendship, and chosen family. Together these men
crisscrossed the country – North, South, East, and West, making their marks and representing their beloved alma mater with
integrity and AGGIE PRIDE. He was a dedicated member of the D.C. Aggie Alumni Chapter; never missing an A&T Homecoming
from his days on the gridiron until 2020 and subsequent years due to health challenges. Other notable friendships and
acquaintances include William Hawkins Frank McCain (d) , Ezell Blair, David Richmond (d) , and Joseph McNeil (d) of The
Greensboro Four, and Jesse Jackson.

Burnie graduated from Peabody High School – Class of 1952 and regularly attended class reunions. After High School graduation,
he enlisted in the United States Army (1953-1955) serving during the Korean War. In recognition of his service, he was awarded
the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal.

Following his military service, Burnie enrolled in North Carolina A&T on a football scholarship and GI Bill benefits. BJ, as he was
known on and off the playing field, had a storied athletic career: CIAA 1960 Football Championship Team, NC A&T Letterman in
Football and Track & Field, Pittsburgh Courier Black College Football All-American1959-1960, and an inductee into NC A&T Hall
of Fame Class of 1995. Burnie was drafted by three NFL teams – the Chicago Bears, the Green Bay Packers, and the San
Francisco 49ers in 1960. He ultimately chose to play for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League (CFL).

Upon his return home from the CFL, Burnie taught and coached at William Penn High School in High Point, NC. Establishing a
home and family in Maryland, he built a distinguished career with The Department of Labor retiring after more than 30 years of
exemplary service to include recognition by President Bill Clinton.

In celebration of his extraordinary life and unyielding loyalty to family, a memorial will be hosted by his nieces, Audrey and Natalie,
in Raleigh, NC, on Sunday, February 15, 2026 (1:00 pm – 3:00 pm) for family members, friends, members of his faithful care
team, and hospice professionals.

Graveside/Interment services are scheduled for Monday, February 16, 2026, in Candor, NC at 1:00pm at Oak Hill Cemetery, 2601
US 220 Alternate S, Candor, NC 27229.

celebrated birthdays one month apart in June and July – often debating who was actually older and wiser.
